Moving rstat-tips.net from wordpress to blogdown
Contents
I’ve started this blog five years ago using wordpress. But I admit that it was quite painful to write the articles about R in wordpress.
I had to write the R-code in RStudio, copy it to wordpress. Then I had to run the code and copy the output to wordpress, too.
Any time I want to make changes to the code this procedure gets quite tedious. I’ve also tried to do some steps at medium. But the steps for publishing were the same.
So I was pleased when I stumbled across blogdown. Using blogdown I can write my R code and the article in one step.
Choosing a Theme
First I’ve chosen a theme from the Hugo-themes site.
There are lots of themes available. I chose one and decided against modifying at large. I want to focus on my content first.
But when I was playing with some articles I got aware of the poor syntax highlighting which I fixed after some searching.
Transferring from Wordpress to Blogdown
There is a tool to convert a wordpress-blog to blogdown. But I decided to move the content manually. That was quite simple and I could learn to work with blogdown.
Deploying via Github at Netlify
The last step was the deployment process. That’s really simple using Netlify.
Update: Self-hosted since 2020-07-22
Because of the latest decision of the European Court of Justice regarding the Privacy Shield I moved this blog to a local German hoster. I’ve also removed the code for Google Analytics.
